Burglary and Alarm Systems

Burglary is one of the most common types of crime in the UK, around half a million burglaries take place in England and Wales each year. Although we have all the latest equipment and  increasing security, measurements taken by the local council’s have helped to control the crime rate, burglaries remain as a very common crime that affect our day to day life.

Burglaries can happen in many ways, for example you have been away from your home and a burglar tricked their way into your house, or you were asleep and someone broke in. The other thing to remember is that burglary is not a one off event, some people can experience multiple break-ins in short intervals.

Our first reaction to a burglary is a MASSIVE SHOCK, we often find it hard to deal with. Psychological consequences  often create more impact than the damage to the property. Many victims of burglary are left with long term psychological impacts and they often do not feel their home a safe place to live.

Burglars have very little idea about what you have, often they break in whenever they see an opportunity, therefore you can not say I have nothing to loose. Burglars can leave your property in a worst condition and that may require re furnishing and re decorating.

How to secure your home?

First and foremost, you should insure your property. There are many insurance companies offering a reasonable rate for home insurance. You should be specific about any valuable items that you have in your property. When signing the contract you have to answer all questions honestly.

The classic mode for burglars is forcing through the front door. Make sure your door is secured with industry approved locks and a security system. Locked windows and terrace doors can be opened by some basic tools, always protect it with a second lock.

Don’t advertise, if you have a 52 inch TV, avoid placing it next to your window or in a place where it can be seen from the outside. This will make you an obvious target.

Intruder alarm systems are getting smarter, installing an alarm system with a siren outside, and signs showing that the system is monitored 24/7, can be a good idea. CCTV cameras are the latest addition to home security. You can install a CCTV camera and this can help in visual verification.
